Motivation and responsibilities

Owing partly to our own disorganization and partly to the rhythm of this class, we did not offer one single, focal assignment prior to today’s class. But this doesn’t mean that you lacked opportunity to contribute.  Three posts in the last week (see below), aside from next week’s fairly significant assignment on outreach, invited commentary and contributions.  Those who did join the conversation did so fruitfully and were even inspirational (thank you).  To those who didn’t, I offer the following central motivation for this class:

We are offering a range of new tools and approaches that help you shape your narrative for why you’re in graduate school, and what you hope to get out of this degree. Because degrees alone are merely ceremonial…it’s what you do with them!
